Music from the inner ear
by Thomas Soderqvist

[Comment posted 2009-01-02 16:06:08]

You may be interested in Danish sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard's spectacular work 'Labyrinthitis' -- music from the inner ear --, which was originally commissioned by Medical Museion, University of Copenhagen and performed in the anatomical theatre at Medical Museion on Sunday 2 September 2007 -- and again at the Museum of Jurassic Technology in Culver City, September 2008.

Jacob Kirkegaard turned his listening ear inwards ? to his own ear. By using specially developed listening equipment at the Danish Technical University, he captured the sounds which the hair cells of the ear send out.

The performance is for sale on CD. You can order it from TouchShop..

Best wishes,

It has been said that "Cold Laser Therapy" can restore your natural hearing, by bring back "Prestin" that is not active anymore. Is this a true statement, and what if anything will restore our hearing?

The Singing Ear/Hearing Channels' Inner Workings

My husband and his family become deaf by the age of approximately 35 due to "nerve deafness." It seems that R & D in this field has not moved forward since his parents' generation. I have wondered if there is a connection with the fluid within the inner ear that the soundwaves must cross that is at play - is somehow inadequate and/or could be enhanced.
Although utterly deaf, when standing in water, he can hear without hearing aids! I have often wished I had the ability to work in R & D with this - I think this must be a key to improving hearing for the millions afflicted with this condition.

It is a fascinating article and it rang bells with me.
Having had a prolonged period of stress and anxiety resulting in depression, which I did not get treated early enough, I was having an electrical 'noise' which felt as though it was between my brain and my ear.
I am on a maintenance level of Paroxetine and when I try to reduce the 10mg? daily dose the noise/effect returns and I feel unwell.
This may or maynot have any relationship to the subject of your article but there was definitly an electrical buzz type noise.
