Don't forget guidelines for vacation and maternity leave

Since most postdocs are not considered staff and we do not sign contracts when we start our jobs, it is very unclear what we are "entitled" to regarding time off. I think that lab guidelines should clearly define vacation time, sick days, and maternity/paternity leave.

Hi, I'm the Web Editor for The Scientist, and I just wanted to say that we have addressed the two issues raised in the comments. The scrolling gremlins in the article are now gone, and we've posted a link to a pdf version of the Lab Philosophy above the online document. Thanks very much for alerting us to these issues.

It would be nice if this article was in format that could be copied or printed so other labs could adapt it for their own use.
