Define "average people": those of the same generation? those of the same social standing? those of average age? Because centenarians are older than the mean age, they are shorter due to bone density loss. Later generations are taller; clothes are being made longer to accomodate the taller youth in the USA. There are many factors to consider as to why centenarians are shorter. The article does not address the hormonal levels found in nonadolescents, which would be helpful to see from a scientific perspective. It would be interesting to see if, say, dairy farmers live longer than, say, poultry farmers. Because of intensive breeding and agricultural science, most every type of animal and plant we eat either grows faster or ripens earlier. It's not just the milk cows. That, taken altogether, would be interesting to study from a hormonal perspective. |
