FLICKR, KENNY LOUIEOpen-access publisher BioMed Central (BMC) last month (July 2) revised a March retraction notice on a Diagnostic Pathology paper that was among dozens of articles pulled from the literature this spring because of suspected manipulation of the peer-review process, Retraction Watch reported this week (August 12). In its updated notice, BMC noted that an investigation by the study authors’ institution found that the researchers “did not participate in influencing the peer-review process.”

BMC spokesperson Shane Canning told Retraction Watch that while updating retraction notices is rare, “it is not unprecedented.”
