LONDON The US National Academy of Sciences today announced the election of 72 new members and 15 foreign associates. Those elected to the distinguished organization today include: cell biologist Joan Brugge — best known for her work on integrins and cell–cell signalling; signal transduction researcher Lewis Cantley; molecular evolutionist Gerald Joyce; structural biologist John Kuriyan and cell biologist Ronald Vale. British epidemiologist Richard Doll, best known for his work on the link between smoking and cancer, and Japanese immunologist Tasuku Honjo are among the new foreign associates.
