Return to Top comment: Tobacco & The DG Race by Ross Hammond [Comment posted 2006-10-24 18:00:54] As its contribution to the debate on who should lead WHO at this critical time, the Framework Convention Alliance (FCA) issued a short questionnaire to the candidates soliciting their views on tobacco. Twelve of the 13 candidates responded, and their answers can be found at: http://fctc.org/DG/
We are urging the 34 countries which are on the Executive Board to examine these answers closely and take them into consideration when choosing a new Director General. The current list of Executive Board Members can be found at: http://www.who.int/governance/eb/eb_members/en/index.html Interestingly, the Wall Street Journal today ran an article about the the tobacco record of candidate Julio Frenk of Mexico. That article can be viewed at: http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB116164895471701497-lMyQjAxMDE2NjIxNDYyNDQ4Wj.html Return to Top comment: Views on Tobacco of DG Candidates by Ross Hammond [Comment posted 2006-09-26 21:11:59] The Framework Convention Alliance (FCA), a coalition of 250+ groups from more than 90 countries that has worked on the development and now ratification and implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, has released a survey on tobacco issues it is asking all of the candidates to fill out.
