It's about time Hiliary did the RIGHT THING and step away from her bid for the democratic presidental nominee. With the nominees in place, it is time to start debating the candidates and their views on various areas of science.

Round 1: Stem Cells
Obama: Strongly in favor of stem cells -

McCain: favors stem cells too

Is McCain in favor of stem cells because of what the polls are telling him to be in favor of? I mean opposing stem cells makes him too closely coupled to GW Bush, which around election time Bush is like the Grinch: Nobody would touch him with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole.

Personally, I think McCain and Dick Cheney for that matter should strongly consider the fact that they are no spring chickens and that stem cells could extend their life someday. Let's hope it's in a retirement home far from Washington DC.

Obama on the other hand, thinks for himself. It is quite refreshing that a politican doesn't check first with their accountant or campaign manager before deciding on an answer. He takes in the facts (which are easier to spot than a fat man hiding behind a toothpick), and comes to the proper decision based on facts.....imagine that!

On the plus side, at least both candidates haven't bankrupted every company they've touched.

Obama was talking about the bill in the House, that passed but was vetod, which would have allowed for more government funding of additonal lines of embryonic stem cells. The embryos would have been obtained from in vitro fertility clinics, which routinely throw away the unused embryos. It was the bill that my senator Arlen Specter (R) supported and Bob Casey (D), aka Rick Santorum light, appossed.

And McCain believes that adult stem cells, can be made as pluripotent as embryonic stem cells "ending the debate" on the issue. This is identical to the position Bush takes on the issue. Does anybody know how McCain voted on the bill, that Obama was talking about?

There's no way that I am voting for McCain either way. Out of all the horrible things this president has done, the one moment that enraged me the most was in 2001, when Bush annaunced that he was going to sign an executive order forbidding all government agencies from funding embryonic stem cells. I was only 15 at the time and it forever made me associate republicans with anti-science policies.
