EPA’s Scott Pruitt Doesn’t Buy Evolution

In audio files from 2005, the future Administrator of the EPA said there’s a lack of “sufficient scientific facts” to back the theory.

By Kerry Grens | March 5, 2018

WIKIMEDIA, UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCYThe administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Scott Pruitt, said that evolution, at least as it concerns the origins of humans, is a philosophical and not scientific matter, according to audio from a 2005 radio show unearthed by Politico. “There aren’t sufficient scientific facts to establish the theory of evolution,” Pruitt said.

It’s not clear how Pruitt’s disregard for a basic tenet of modern biology affects his work at the agency. But Republican lawmakers tell Politico that Pruitt’s faith—he is an evangelical Christian—should indeed guide his decisions. “He’s a believer. He is a Jesus guy. He believes in the principles,” Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) tells Politico. “I think it does [have an impact], and I think it has to. Anyone who denies that that has an impact isn’t being totally honest.”

Andrew Rosenberg, director of the Center for Science and Democracy at the Union of Concerned Scientists, counters that Pruitt should not act as “the nation’s pastor.”

Pruitt has questioned the contributions of humans to climate change, and his policy decisions have attempted to roll back environmental regulations aimed at safeguarding against anthropogenic sources of global warming.

According to Politico, the EPA’s press office took offense at a reporter asking if there could be a conflict between Pruitt’s anti-science beliefs and his job in running an agency that should be making evidence-based decisions. “If you’re insinuating that a Christian should not serve in capacity as EPA administrator,” the spokesperson said, “that is offensive and a question that does not warrant any further attention.”

News flash: There are no facts to support a Biblical version of creation. As for the EPA spokesperson:  “If you’re insinuating that a Christian should not serve in capacity as EPA administrator,” the spokesperson said, “that is offensive and a question that does not warrant any further attention.” I highly suspect that if one asked that question of Dr. Francis Collins -- a devout Christian and an excellent scientist heading up the NIH -- one would get a much more informed answer about how one can reconcile pursuing a scientific approach to things scientific while maintaining one's faith as well.

I'm a Jesus Freak and a Scientist, so they do exist!.  I do not believe in Macro-evolution - nothingness to dirt to life.  Micro-Evolution exists and was created to sustain the changing Earth's environment.  No patent has ever evolved on itself but was created by an intellectual human being.  To deny this would be to deny our technology advances.

Wouldn't be ironic if he catches an antibiotic resistant urinary tract infection? LOL

BTW, a religious person cannot be a scientist. At least, not a good one

The Pope accepts evolution. Pruitt and other envangelicals' stance indicate a lack of ability for critical thought. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2014/10/28/pope-francis-backs-theory-of-evolution-says-god-is-no-wizard/?utm_term=.2522a0544bb3

Compare Pruitt's comments to Darwin's:

Pruitt: “There aren’t sufficient scientific facts to establish the theory of evolution,” Pruitt said.

Darwin: "I am well aware that scarcely a single point is discussed in this volume on which facts cannot be adduced, often apparently leading to conclusions directly opposite to those at which I have arrived. A fair result can be obtained only by fully stating and balancing the facts and arguments on both sides of each question, and this cannot possibly be done here." (Introduction to the Origin of Species)

If by "opposite conclusions" Darwin meant the ability of natural selection to prevent major evolutionary change from occurring on a gradual step-by-step basis by eliminating useless incipient and transitional stages, Pruitt might develop the idea into a Theory of Conservation.

No facts to support a Biblical version of creation?

Scientists once believed that the universe was eternal. This was at a time when scientific beliefs and the Biblical account of creation were in serious conflict. Today we know from the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, an expanding universe, the Big Bang theory, etc. that the author of Genesis was correct when it came to the big picture.

If you mean a young-Earth interpretation of Genesis that's a different matter. If one takes Genesis 1 literally and the sun was actually created on the 4th day, it follows that the days of Genesis are literally anything but solar days. In short, Genesis tells us nothing about the age of the universe other than the fact that it is finite and the universe had a moment of creation.

Two days ago, the brilliant Stephen Hawking (an atheist) stated that before the ‘Big Bang’ there was nothing. This statement goes hand in hand with Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” This verse goes along with Hawking’s assumption that time, space, or the universe were not present before the creation of it. One article explains it better with these sentences:

First, simple logic dictates that nothing comes from nothing. “Nothing” is nonexistent and there- fore lacks the power to do...something produced by nothing from nothing would, logically, have had to create itself. But if it created itself, it would have had to exist prior to its own creation, which means it must both exist and not exist at the same time and in the same way—an obvious contradiction and an utterly illogical conclusion.”

Next, is the position of earth itself. Former astronaut Guy Gardner, who has seen the earth from the moon, stated “the more we learn and see about the universe the more we come to realize that the most ideally suited place for life within the entire solar system is the planet we call home.”

This is no coincidence, this is not random. If the earth were closer to the sun, we’d burn. If the earth were farther from the sun, then we’d freeze. The moon has an influence on the Earth’s tides. No coincidence. The state of gravity could not have been random. We constantly fall towards the sun but miss it every time. Coincidence or design? Everything designed must have a designer. If the universe is constantly expanding, then that suggests that at one point, it had a beginning. Both Einstein and Eddington wanted to refute that the universe has a beginning but both saw that the evidence was against them. Isaiah 45:12 – “My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts.”

Barring defects, every human has: two ears, two eyes, two nostrils, one head, two lips, one chest, two arms, one back, and two legs. Uniformity of the human body can’t be a coincidence, can it? The fact that you claim we came from nothing, and made something of ourselves is impossible. The complexity of the nervous system, by itself, is quite amazing. The human body’s protection mechanisms can’t be random. The scabs to patch up bleeding, the heating of the body in cold water, the range of flexibility of our motions, the body’s senses as a whole are too complex to think it’s all an accident. Everything has a process, like the human body; which is automatically set to 98.6 degrees F. Gravity, precipitation, and the human body all have processes. The greatest process is child birth. The fact that a real human can house another human inside of the body. The mother’s digested nutrients being passed into the unborn child’s to sustain it until birth, incredible. You can’t possibly tell me there’s no Higher Power. There are three main species: plants, animals, and humans. Humans are the only one of the three with a soul and a spirit. We have free will and the ability to reason, much to society’s detriment. Since God is a spirit and breathed life into us, we therefore have a spirit.

Whenever someone writes a law, recoils from evil, praises good behavior, or feels guilty, he or she is confirming the fact that we are made in God’s own image.”

Our moral compass is embedded in us, yet our innate nature (sin) causes us to do wrong.  Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

The Bible encouraged people to wash their hands after touching dead things. “Anything that an unclean person touches becomes unclean, and anyone who touches it becomes unclean till evening.” -Numbers 19:16. It wasn’t until 1940 that Dr. Semmelweis understood that his doctors needed to wash their hands after they touched a sick or dead body, otherwise the spread of germs would proceed. Hundreds of years ago, people believed that the earth was held up by something like a creature or Atlas’s arms, they also beloved the earth was flat, but once agin the Bible already refuted those beliefs. In Job 26:7 it says “He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.” “He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.” - Isaiah 40:22. The Bible even fortold of Israel’s statehood in Jeremiah 30:3 . If there is a God, then I’d take the chance to believe in Him, considering He loves us enough to save us from our own doing. He purposely created the sun, moon, and the stars for our timing, direction, and light sources.

89% of Americans believe in a higher power. .

If we are talking about the creation, the execution and the placing into operation (rendering operative) of one closed system in the term of The Total Knowledge Management, we shall separate The Designer from The Performer and The Implemeter.
The Bible is the better Management Book, because it separate from the begining the three stages or three sequences: 1. The Designer:  And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. (Genesis 1.3)
That means Project Creation sent to The Performer and Implementer with the help of EMF as support of the words (see the mobile phone high tech). 2. The Performer and The Implemeter: Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. (Genesis 1.3)
That means Project Execution and Actuation or Evolution, including Correction or Adaptation to the ground - that means 6 intervention of The Designer Creator (God) in the execution to adapt The Project to As Built: "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. (Genesis 1.31) If you want a the shorter description in the world of the Life Creative Evolution we shall go to Daniel 7.2-13.   Because John Craig Venter said:
Life is a process of dynamic renewal. Without our DNA, without the software of life cells die very rapidly... all life is cellular, and the cellular theory of life is that you can only get life from preexisting cells, and all kinds of special vitalistic parameters have been attributed to cells over time.
https://www.edge.org/conversation/j_craig_venter-what-is-life-a-21st-century-perspective That means: And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” (Genesis 3.22)   Nobody can ignore the LIFE EVOLUTION in the material world, and nobody can ignore LIFE CREATION in the light or Electro Magnetic Field.

VarQ: a tool for the structural analysis of Human Protein Variants has replaced neo-Darwinian theories with facts about how the energy-dependent structure of functional supercoiled DNA biophysically constrains viral latency.

All serious scientists have seen this coming and some of them are meeting to discuss the facts. See those who are presenting on "What is Life?"

Andrew Rosenberg should become familiar with the extant literature or play the cell biology game "Cytosis" for ages 10+. There is no excuse for his level of ignorance.

Darwin framed his observations in the context of "conditions of life." They biophysically constrain energy-dependent viral latency via the physiology of reproduction.

The proposals discussed were speculative, but they have since been linked from Darwin's theory to facts about how life on Earth is biophysically constrained.
