Science is big business, and wherever big business is found, ancillary units will exist to siphon off any funds not already committed to the primary mission. It would appear that Susan Paris, as president of Americans for Medical Progress Educational Foundation, has found such a niche (S.E. Paris, "Animal Rights Advocates' Actions Pose Big Threat To Public Health," The Scientist, Sept. 5, 1994,page 12).
Paris is not the genius behind this hysterical "beating of the bush," as others--notably the National Association for Biomedical Research--have been making a nice living with the same tactic for years.
The simple fact is that most animal-rights activists embrace medical research, though not at the expense of sentient creatures.
