This webinar, brought to you by The Scientist, will be hosted live and available on-demand.

Wednesday, September 30, 2026
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM ET

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatial transcriptomics are providing increasingly detailed views of complex cellular ecosystems, enabling researchers to investigate cellular heterogeneity, tissue organization, and disease-associated biology. Yet generating these datasets is only the beginning. Analytical decisions made during quality control, integration, clustering, and cell-type annotation can significantly influence downstream biological interpretations and determine whether findings reflect meaningful biology or technical artifacts.

In this webinar, Joshua Campbell, will move beyond standard analytical workflows to examine critical decision points in single-cell and spatial transcriptomics analysis. Drawing on his experience analyzing diverse tissues and disease states, Campbell will discuss how researchers can identify meaningful quality control metrics, establish appropriate thresholds, critically evaluate data integration and clustering, and select marker genes for accurate cell-type annotation. Attendees will gain practical insight into making analytical decisions that support robust and biologically meaningful conclusions.

Topics to be covered

  • Quality control strategies for single-cell and spatial transcriptomics
  • Selecting meaningful quality control metrics and analytical thresholds
  • Evaluating data integration and potential overcorrection
  • Assessing clustering and batch effects
  • Optimizing marker gene selection and cell-type annotation
  • Distinguishing rare cell populations from technical artifacts
  • Translating complex transcriptomic datasets into reliable biological insights
