Terril A. Nell, a professor in the department of environmental horticulture at the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) in Gainesville, has been named chairman of the department. Nell had been acting chairman since June 1991.

Nell joined IFAS as an assistant professor in 1977, and became an associate professor in 1982 and a full professor in 1987. He earned a bachelor's degree in ornamental horticulture from Auburn University in 1971, a master's degree in horticultural science from North Carolina State University in 1973, and a doctorate in horticulture from Michigan State University in 1977.
