After seven years of acting as a center for researchers from other institutions, the Neurosciences Institute will add in-house research to its current programs. An independent organization located on the campus of Rockefeller University in New York, the institute works to encourage interdisciplinary exchange of information in neuroscience. Under director Gerald M. Edelman, the institute hosts small conferences and workshops, which do not follow the usual paper-and-slides format but which encourage informal discussion of particular research problems.

Now the institute is looking for several neuroscientists interested in a two-year appointment as Fellows in Theoretical Neurobiology. According to research director Einar Gall, the institute wants "people with a background in experimental neuroscience who also have an interest in using biologically based models and simulations to study neural functions. The program is very broad, very flexible." For more information, contact the Neurosciences Institute, 1230 York Ave New York, N.Y. 10021.
