Holiday Wish List

I was interested to read the "Lab Holiday Wish List"1 and more specifically, the wish expressed by Werner Dubitsky, University of Ulster, that there be broader integration of knowledge among disciplines, in particular in the life sciences field. I am in the happy position of being able to go some way toward granting his seasonal wish by pointing him and The Scientist readers to the United Kingdom's Foresight Programme, which currently includes a project that is bringing together scientific communities working on artificial and biological cognitive systems.

The Foresight Cognitive Systems project aims to:

  • Produce a vision of future developments in cognitive systems through an exploitation of recent advances in life sciences, physical sciences, and related fields and their potential for interaction.
  • Scope likely developments in these fields over the next decade, and in particular to scope the likely rate of progress in our capability to...
