Myf-6, a member of the human family of muscle-specific helix-loop-helix proteins (the other members are MyoD1, myogenin, and Myf-5), is abundantly expressed in adult muscle, suggesting that it may play a key role in maintaining or modulating the adult muscle phenotype. These four muscle regulatory factors exhibit similar biochemical properties but show distinct expression profiles during embryonic development, suggesting that a dynamic interplay of these proteins may be involved in the control of muscle...
