"Fighting Fraud with DNA"1 claims that high-speed PCR is "too expensive now, but probably not in 10 or 20 years. There will have to be some breakthroughs in amplifying and reading faster ...." We have already built PCR instruments that amplify DNA fragments of 100 to 2000 base pairs through 30 PCR cycles in 1.3 to 10 minutes.
