Pre-clinical and non-clinical drug testing rely heavily on whether the models used can accurately reca­pitulate complex biological processes. Historically, scientists have turned to animal models, which are time-consuming to generate and maintain. Additionally, there is always a disconnect between the models and human physiology. Thus, there is a recent push from regulatory agencies to develop and use advanced in vitro models such as organoids and spheroids for drug screening and testing.
