The Videomex-V video image analyzer combines sophisticated hard ware and software, enabling users to track multiple animals with a single television camera. The user can adjust for the sizes of objects to be monitored and the areas in which they move. This system is adaptable for measuring the activity of microscopic parasites as well as the movement of large animals. With the help of a microprocessor, the Videomex-V activity analyzer can acquire and process images 30 times/second, either directly from the television camera or from video tape. The image analyzer can operate alone, printing out data about the measured activity, or can transmit the data to remote computers via a RS- 232 port. Using a thermal conductivity detector, the devices can detect helium with a sensitivity of 1.0 x 10-5 cc per second and refrigerants at levels of 1.1 x 10-4 cc per second. Models BDIO(J and BDIOI can record a maximum of three and six channels, respectively. Variable attenuation allows the input sensitivity to vary from 40 to 100 percent of the selected range within the calibrated region. A pen offset compensation module (POC) can accompany any input module. The POC electronic card compensates for the physical distances between the pens by delaying the signal for the required time. With this feature, all signals are drawn relative to the same time axis. The user controls chartpaper position and speed.
