Bioengineers Soon To Have Headquarters In Washington, D.C.

The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE)--an organization representing nearly 15,000 United States engineers, physicians, and scientists-- has received a grant enabling it to set up permanent headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Thanks to the funding infusion, institute officials say, biomedical engineering researchers will for the first time have a geographical, as well as a scientific, base upon which to build greater recognition for their shared research interests.

Principal financing for the new office has come in the form of a five-year, $625,000 grant from the Whitaker Foundation- -a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit group that traditionally has supported research, training, and conferences in biomedical engineering, chiefly through grants to scientists, institutions, and professional societies (N.
