Diagnostic Biochips

Diagnostic Biochips has spent over a decade equipping neuroscientists with high-resolution, microfabricated silicon probes for in vivo research. As the field rapidly shifts toward in vitro, human-derived models—particularly 3D cultures—driven by improvements in throughput, cost, and translational relevance, a critical gap has emerged: the lack of tools for measuring live, functional neural activity in these systems. To address this need, we developed SomaFocus, an automated electrophysiology platform designed specifically for organoids, spheroids, and other 3D iPSC-derived neural models. SomaFocus enables researchers to capture rich, in-depth electrophysiological data without complex sample preparation, unlocking unprecedented insight into functional activity in 3D neural systems—supporting disease modeling, neurotoxicity testing, and therapeutic discovery.
