I found the discussion in the September 5, 1988, issue of The Scientist about religion and science (pages 10-11) to be counterproductive, at least the articles by Provine and Saffran. I believe that Lady Warnock is right in saying that science is threatened by religious fundamentalism, and the corrective in my view is to clarify the relationship between science and religion. I believe that a case can be made that science and religion are complementary.
