RNA purification is a critical step in many gene expression workflows, but traditional extraction methods can increase hands-on time, sample handling, consumable use, and opportunities for sample loss before reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) begins. Direct cell-to-RT-qPCR approaches offer an alternative by enabling researchers to move from cultured mammalian cells to gene expression analysis without first isolating RNA.

In this webinar, brought to you by Thermo Fisher Scientific, Laura Mier will discuss how the TaqMan™ Cells-to-CT™ family supports direct gene expression analysis from cultured cell lysates. She will introduce the TaqMan™ Cells-to-CT™ Express 1-Step Kit, which combines rapid cell lysis, reverse transcription, and qPCR to prepare cultured mammalian cells for analysis in approximately five minutes. The presentation will examine performance across cell inputs and gene targets, comparisons with purified-RNA workflows, and applications in high-throughput and automation-compatible gene expression studies.

Topics to be covered

  • Eliminating traditional RNA purification from RT-qPCR workflows
  • Direct gene expression analysis from cultured mammalian cell lysates
  • Combining rapid cell lysis, reverse transcription, and qPCR
  • Comparing direct cell-to-RT-qPCR with purified-RNA workflows
  • Scaling gene expression analysis for high-throughput applications
  • Reducing sample handling and consumable use in RT-qPCR workflows
