Alpha Innotech Corporation (San Leandro, Calif.) recently introduced a new chemiluminescence and fluorescence imaging system. The ChemiImager(TM) 4000 is designed to document, analyze, and archive gels, membranes, films, chemiluminescent samples, and plates in a matter of minutes.


Cool Camera: the ChemiImagerTM 4000 From Alpha Innotech
At the heart of the ChemiImager 4000 is a thermoelectrically cooled CCD (charge-coupled device) camera. Using Peltier technology with a recirculating fluid chiller and proprietary electronics, the camera can be cooled to -40°C to minimize dark current or electronic noise amplification in exposures ranging from 1/30 second to 2 hours. The CCD sensor used in the ChemiImager 4000 has very high quantum efficiency (40%) at the wavelength of light emitted from several chemiluminescent kits (425 nm). This contrasts with quantum efficiencies as low as 7 percent with compatible CCD sensors.
