In chromatography applications, impurities in the water comprising mobile phase solvents and samples affect the sensitivity and reproducibility of experimental results. Researchers quantifying trace compounds require chromatography-grade, ultrapure water to minimize baseline noise and improve signal-to-noise ratios. However, HPLC-grade water stored in bottles accumulates impurities over time. To avoid this problem, researchers should make their own ultrapure water fresh in the laboratory.
