Slideshow: Implementing change in Haiti

A slideshow showing images of the fight against HIV/AIDS in Haiti

By Bob Grant

In the troubled heart of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, a clinic has been administering treatment, care, and counseling to the country's HIV/AIDS patients since the epidemic began in the early 1980s. The Haitian Study Group on Kaposi's Sarcoma and Opportunistic Infections, or GHESKIO, as natives call it, has weathered the tumult of Haiti's recent history and has played a role in decreasing the country's HIV/AIDS prevalence by at least 2%. For an article on public health in the developing world in our March issue, staff writer Bob Grant traveled to Haiti and observed everyday scenes in and around the GHESKIO center.
