New Strategies for Repurposing Existing Therapies

Drug repurposing uses existing drugs beyond the scope in which they were originally approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Developing novel drugs through the traditional drug discovery pipeline is a long, costly, and risky process. However, repurposing existing drugs expedites therapy development. As compared to their approved applications, scientists can use the repurposed drugs to treat different diseases, develop new drug formulations, or change their delivery methods into the body.

Download this poster from The Scientist’s Creative Services Team to compare the drug repurposing pipeline with the traditional drug discovery pipeline and explore examples of successfully repurposed drugs.
