What Oxygen Level Is Biologically Relevant For Cell Culture?

Normoxic atmospheric conditions provide excessive oxygen availability, leading to abnormal cell behavior.

Share

Cell culture is not always conducted in a manner that preserves physiological relevance and optimizes cellular health. In particular, oxygen availability during in vitro culture is often excessive, as scientists use atmospheric oxygen levels (normoxia) rather than oxygen concentrations available to cells within the body (physioxia). This causes cells to behave abnormally, decreasing data consistency and workflow efficiency.

Download this poster from Thermo Fisher Scientific to learn about physiological oxygen levels and how to create more physiologically-relevant cell culture environments.
