Date: April 26, 1997

ALAN LESHNER
Director
National Institute On Drug Abuse
National Institutes Of Health
Rockville, MD

By training, Leshner is a neuroscientist and psychologist. He has conducted research on the relationship between biology and behavior. And it is because of this research focus and the evolution of the neuroscience of drug abuse that his interest grew in that direction. By working with drug abuse professionals, the general public, and policymakers, Leshner is striving to ensure that the science supported by NIDA is not only useful but also used.

A reader of THE SCIENTIST, Leshner says: "It's obviously very important to stay up to date and since I define my field broadly, THE SCIENTIST has the most comprehensive coverage of a wide range of topics. THE SCIENTIST is a good way to stay connected with policy, policymakers, and the general scientific community."
