Readers may be interested to know that in response to the DoJ report and recent animal rights attacks in Montgomery County, Md., Congressman George Gekas (R-Pa.) has introduced legislation that would further protect researchers. Called the Animal Enterprise Personnel Protection Amendment, the bill would extend existing federal protection from the animal enterprises to the individuals who work for them.

Gekas's bill would give federal authorities another tool to investigate and prosecute animal rights terrorists and strengthen criminal investigators by creating a federal central intelligence network for these crimes. The bill would also send a strong public message that Americans value the contributions to society by biomedical investigators and will not tolerate attacks on these dedicated men and women.
