This may involve keeping in touch with former graduate students or advisors who are working in promising disease areas, she explains. "You need to bring more to the table," says Zemlo.

The best way for scientists to stay afloat if offshoring picks up is to keep abreast of cutting-edge technologies in their field, perhaps through continuing education courses, says Ames Gross, president of Pacific Bridge Medical.
