Company president Richard Scordato points out that standard multichannel pipettes, both manual and electronic, require a great deal of force for tip acquisition and ejection. To mitigate this problem, the Ovation pipettes use a patented tip-acquisition system that clicks to indicate when the tips have been seated properly. Tips are ejected with the push of a button. "There's virtually no ejection force whatsoever," Scordato says.
The pipettes use a rechargeable battery, feature replaceable nozzles, and are self-standing to eliminate cross-contamination. "People who work under laminar flow hoods love them because they're really worried about contamination, putting a pipette down and touching something," says Scordato.
