SARAH A. NUNNELEY
Research Physician
Armstrong Laboratory, Brooks Air Force Base, Texas

The first woman to receive board certification in aerospace medicine, Nunneley encourages young women interested in the sciences to train at small, liberal arts colleges, where they can gain first-hand experience in research by working with faculty scientists.

She also values THE SCIENTIST as an information source for women science students and professionals. She says: "THE SCIENTIST covers both women scientists as newsmakers and the issues that women and minorities face in science careers. I really enjoy picking up the newspaper and seeing photographs of women accompanying the articles. THE SCIENTIST makes a concerted effort to represent women's opinions and expertise, all the more important because women's names are often not the first to be put forth to the press."
