Fostering science education and diversifying the talent pool of researchers and engineers are Shirley Malcom's main goals at AAAS. As a leader in science, she has advocated greater access to science by all people, especially encouraging broader public appreciation of science-why we need it and why we must support it.
Malcom began her career as a high school science teacher. But her programs at AAAS target a wide spectrum of the student population, from the pre-kindergarten to post-graduate levels.
