" The multidrug resistance system in tumor cells consists of a remarkable 170,000 molecular weight glycoprotein. Cells containing this membrane ATPase “flush out” toxic compounds of diverse structures. The wide substrate range and complex structure of the ATPase with two membrane sections and two ATPase domains raise interesting questions as to its origin and function.
