Young biomedical scientists will lose a major source of postdoctoral training funds as a result of the decision by the Lucille P. Markey Charitable Trust to terminate its Markey Scholars in Biomedical Science program. Since the Scholar Awards program was established in 1984, the trust has committed more than $62 million in support of 115 scientists from 33 academic institutions.

The Program on Science and International Security of the American Association for the Advancement of Science offers its second annual Hilliard Roderick Prize for Excellence in Science, Arms Control, and International Security.
