To promote the quest for mapping the human genome as an effort, UNESCO and the Third World Academy of Sciences have established the UNESCO/TWAS Fellowship Programme in the Human Genome.

The program provides support for investigators from developing countries to spend up to three months in established laboratories doing research or learning new techniques related to the human genome. The researchers should be under the age of 40 and from Eastern Europe or developing countries.

The dozen fellows selected will receive about $4,000 per year. In the future, UNESCO hopes to increase the stipends. Application deadlines are March 31 and September 30.
