NSF has elevated its programs in instrumentation and related areas to the level of a division in the Directorate of Biological, Behavioral, and Social Sciences. The new Division of Instrumentation and Resources includes such programs as instrumentation and instrument development, field stations, database software development, history and philosophy of science, ethics and value studies, and special projects such as science and technology centers. John Wooley is acting division director. The first impact of the reorganization may be deadline changes for submitting proposals. The new guidelines are expected to come out sometime in the fall.

Young medical researchers might nudge their department chairs about the Culpeper Fellowships. They only started last year, funded by the Charles E. Culpeper Foundation in New York, and any U.S. medical school can nominate a researcher. The foundation is accepting nominations until August 15, and will fund three winners to the tune of $100,000 a year ...
