One of the new journals is dedicated to the study of biofilms (such as the one pictured above) and micribiomes. WIKIMEDIA, CDCNature Publishing Group today (April 2) announced that it is launching a portfolio of online-only, open-access journals in partnership with institutions, foundations, and academic societies. Called Nature Partner Journals (NPJ), these subject-specific publications are meant to serve “high-impact and emerging or under-served fields,” according to Nature.
One new title, NPJ Schizophrenia, to be run in collaboration with the Schizophrenia International Research Society, will cover research advances related to the disease. NPJ Biofilms and Microbiomes, created in partnership with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering, will “bring together scientists studying the social behavior of complex microbial communities across a wide disciplinary spectrum and covering natural, medical and industrial settings,” NTU President Bertil Andersson said in a statement.
In the announcement, Philip Campbell, editor-in-chief of the publisher’s flagship journal, Nature, said that “research is ever changing, and the Nature Partner Journals are one way in which we can meet the evolving needs of the research community.”
