Mann was founding director of the World Health Organization's Global Program on AIDS from 1986 to 1990 and was appointed professor at the Harvard School of Public Health in 1990. He founded the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights at the Harvard School of Public Health in 1992 and subsequently launched Health and Human Rights: An International Journal .
