" Reports of cold fusion stirred a great deal of activity. Little has appeared in peer-reviewed journals, however. A report of comprehensive studies with electrolytic cells that produced no fusion has appeared in Physical Review Letters.

The growth of GaAs on Si has been known to proceed through island formation, not layer-by-layer epitaxy. Two papers explore the microscopic origins of this phenomenon and identify the sources of energy gain.
