The latter was predicted by the strong correlation theories originating from the RVB [resonating-valence-bond] proposal by P.W. Anderson [Princeton University]. At the same time, exotic proposals by R.B. Laughlin [Stanford University] were suggesting that the microscopic mechanism at work in high Tc materials was due to an attractive vector potential, not an attractive potential. The path followed by Laughlin borrowed concepts from the fractional quantum Hall effect and, notably, the notion of fractional statistics.
