" A human gene, CDC2Hs, is able to function in yeast that have lost their own CDC2 gene and are blocked in the cell cycle unless given the human gene. When phosphorylated,, the products of both the yeast and human genes signal their respective cells to leave the G1 phase of the cell cycle and enter the S phase. Regulation of transcription of the CDC2Hs gene may be involved in quiescence and senescence of human cells.
