Pfeffer (Harvard Medical School, Boston): "The Survival and Ventricular Enlargement (SAVE) study demonstrated that long- term administration of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor captopril to survivors of myocardial infarction (MI) with ventricular dysfunction prolonged survival. This effect was attributable to reductions both in cardiovascular deaths and in the incidence of heart failure and recurrent MI.
