She joined the Clinton administration in 1993 after five years as senior vice president, technology, at Allied-Signal Inc. in Morristown, N.J. Prior to that time, she spent 25 years in academia, most recently as Boyd Professor of Materials Science at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
As a member of the Clinton administration, Good notes, an important task facing her department is making sure the public understands the scope of the federal investment in scientific research and development as well as why it's important. "The public believes that science and technology is a top government priority," she comments. "That means, at the very least, maintaining the current level of funding for research and development."
