Arnold Goodman, associate director of the Center for Statistical Consulting at the University of California, Irvine, met genomics researcher Paul Silverman after a January 2004 lecture. They began working together to develop a broader view of genetic determinism. Cláudia Bellato, of the University of São Paulo, Brazil, joined their working group in May, and PhD candidate Lily Khidr joined in October shortly after Paul's untimely death last year. They dedicate their article on page 20 on revamping central dogma to his memory and thank Nancy, his wife, for her assistance.

Agricultural economist Dana Dalrymple has been working with the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) since 1972.
