New FASEB head focuses on election

Richard Marchase, the 93rd president of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), who took office this week, said he plans to continue to focus on encouraging US voters in the upcoming November elections to consider science issues. "The upcoming Presidential election and the incoming administration present unique opportunities to highlight the importance of biomedical research on a national scale," he said in a press release. Marchase, the linkurl:vice president for research;https://main.uab.edu/show.asp?durki=8039 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he is professor of cell biology, said he also plans to push accountability in public spending on research during his tenure at the organization, which represents more than 80,000 biomedical researchers. Mark Lively, a biochemist at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, was voted FASEB president-elect.
