Saliva can provide researchers with a source of high-quality human genomic DNA. Although blood is commonly employed for this purpose, saliva offers several advantages. It is more readily accessible, especially for repeat sampling, because its acquisition is minimally invasive and requires little training. Researchers are now exploring how to best extract and use saliva-derived DNA for long-read sequencing applications.
