Sales of pediatric prophylactic vaccines are projected to increase from $3.3 billion to $5 billion by 2006, for example, with sales of similar drugs for adults to increase from $2.3 billion to $3.8 billion, according to the BCCI statement. "In my role in keeping an eye on my competitors, it's reasonable to assume that there is intense work in the industry and [it is] becoming more and more important in the future," says Lee Mizzen, vice president of scientific affairs at StressGen, a Victoria, British Columbia-based biotechnology company developing vaccines to treat cancer and viral infections. David Jensen, founder and principal consultant of Searchmasters International of Sedona, Ariz., says, "We're seeing resurgence of vaccine interest, not only from traditional companies, but we have been retained by a private foundation to find key people in the development of an AIDS vaccine."
