The NIH shared new data detailing complaints it has received in recent years, the latest in a series of steps taken by funding agencies and professional organizations to address misconduct.

The National Academy of Sciences is reviewing complaints about astronomer Geoffrey Marcy and geneticist Francisco Ayala, who left their academic positions following investigations at their institutions.

She conducted innovative research in mutagenesis and teratogenesis related to radiation and chemical exposures, identifying risks to fetuses.

If the changes are passed, a member can be ousted for a proven case of sexual harassment by a two-thirds majority vote by the academy’s Council.

The proposed changes follow revelations in recent years that committee members preparing reports for the Academies did not disclose industry relationships.
