In a recent commentary in The Scientist (June 8, 1992, page 12), Bryan Farha calls for a collective project involving scientists and religious leaders in "a grand endeavor to address the greatest existential questions on the grandest of scales: Who or what orchestrated the birth of the universe, and for what purpose?"
I would think that the first step in such a process would be for scientists and religious leaders to agree on the kinds of evidence that bear on this question. If the participants could overcome this initial hurdle, the rest of the program should be a piece of cake.
