Barely promoted outside specialist publications, IAS is a well-designed math, science and engineering tool. The interface consists of menus and submenus that stack and are visible simultaneously.

Menus allow you to select basic math functions and several not so basic ones, including periodic functions, random, hyperbolic and complex domain functions. IAS also handles matrix operations and has user-defined functions, as well as considerable graphics and plotting ability.

Pop-up windows are used for solving equations and giving solution information. Plot windows expand to fill the screen, and you can do multiple plots in multiple windows—an effective feature.
